Thank Goodness for Coffee: The super antioxidant

Can you believe it? Coffee is good for you and a potent source of healthful antioxidants!

Surprising, (at least, to me),  coffee shows more antioxidant activity than green tea and cocoa, known  antioxidant superstars.

Scientists have identified approximately 1,000 antioxidants in unprocessed coffee beans, and hundreds more develop during the roasting process.

One Medical’s blog,  Reasons to Drink Coffee, describes Coffee’s method of action: Coffee’s antioxidants fight inflammation, an underlying cause feeding many chronic conditions, including arthritis, atherosclerosis and many types of cancer.

Antioxidants also neutralize free radicals, which occur naturallys as a part of everyday life. Antioxidants inhibit metabolic functions which can cause oxidative stress and lead to chronic disease. In other words,  antioxidants keep us healthy at the micro-level by protecting our cells from damage. CoF, chlorogenic acid, an important antioxidant found almost exclusively in coffee, is also thought to help prevent cardiovascular disease.

In addition, Antioxidants can also protect us from the formation of dementia, liver disease and some forms of mental illness.

Coffee drinkers unite, enjoy and Drink Up!
